Uro-gynecological rehabilitation

Rehabilitation of the perineum

We are trained in the rehabilitation of the so-called functional perineum, i.e. by active work associated with breathing. For example, hypopressive work, particularly based on the De Gasquet method. We are also equipped and specialized for active rehabilitation by Biofeedback, using a computer and probes measuring the strength and responsiveness of the women's pelvic floor muscles with a visual feedback that helps the patient feel better and correct his movements.

Men and children

Roxana and Julie are mainly concerned with the rehabilitation of the perineum for women. For children, please find a specialist on the ASPUG list. For men, Roxana only accepts appointments following a surgical invention such as prostatectomy. For sexology, please refer to the ASPUG list.

What is Perineum?

Perineum is a group of muscles located between the pubis (at the front) and the coccyx (at the back), in the small pelvis in men and women. It supports the organs of the lower belly (such as bladder, uterus or rectum) and plays an important role in urinary and fecal continence, as well as in sexuality.

This may be affected by natural aging and pre and postpartum periods in women and by sport. Too often forgotten, we must not make it a banality but take the time to deal with it.

Reeducation by BioFeedback

To become aware of his body to better control him

Biofeedback rehabilitation is an innovative approach that uses internal and external sensors to record muscle activity and return it in real time in visual or audible form. This method allows the patient to feel better the movements of his body, integrate them and adjust them actively.

Common indications:

  • Chronic pelvic and perineal pain

  • Pelvic floor re-education (urinary incontinence, pre and postpartum, exercise dysfunction)

  • Postural disorders

  • Muscle coordination after episiotomy or surgery

Benefits:

  • Better body consciousness

  • Accelerated engine learning

  • Active patient involvement for automation

  • Measuring and motivating progress

Re-education by active/postural work

Active perineal rehabilitation consists of: strengthen and better control the perineum muscles (Pelvic flooring), thanks to targeted voluntary exercises by the patient·e, under the supervision of a specialist physiotherapist.

The perineum being a set of muscles, ligaments and fascias located in the small pelvis in both man and woman, it is essential to work actively with exercises adapted to the capacity and objectives of the patient.

Active work through exercises involves conscious and committed patient participation:

  • Awareness of perineum : learn to locate and activate the right muscles

  • Contraction and relaxation exercises : work in different positions (long, sitting, standing)

  • Functional integration : coordination with breathing, abdominals, everyday or sporting gestures

  • Custom Progression : according to abilities and objectives (strengthening, endurance, coordination)

Julie CHAPUIS

I take care pre and postpartum patients, for:

- lumbar and pelvic pain, comfort, preparation work of the perineum during the prepartum period.

- postpartum re-education, reinforcement of perineum, pelvic pain, return to accompanied sport.

– scarring work (Cesarean, episiotomy).

I also take care of the rehabilitation in women suffering from urinary incontinence (leakage) to exercise / mixed.

I do not care for children/adolescents and men.

Please refer to the ASPUG list to find a therapist.
